Salespersons are not regulated today. From 1 January 2011, they will need to be registered with CEA through their agents before they can do estate agency work. As part of the registration criteria, they will need to have minimum 4 GCE “O” Level passes or equivalent, pass a mandatory CEA examination for salespersons, and fulfill fit and proper criteria, which include not being an undischarged bankrupt and not having criminal records involving fraud or dishonesty.

It should be okay, but you could firm it by giving a call once CEA is up on 22nd of October Mr. Scheissesgal.

I’m interested to carve out a career in Real Estate. I have an honour degree in hospitality. However, I have past criminal records but it is not involving fraud or dishonesty. Would it be an issue for me?

It is possible to start out as a part time Real Estate agent but I’m advising you against doing it as this profession requires dedication to your clients and you’ll get very busy and tired juggling between a full time job and this business.
